This piece is currently unfinished. It is a project that will be picked up again. It started as a first year ceramics Snaking vessel Project given to me by my professor Neil Forrest. Seeing as I was not a beginning in ceramics this project did what most of the others did and spiralled into large involved pieces. This is my longest running project and likely the one that has the most hours put into it.
The finished piece will be a portable(ish) shower that will go in a gallery space. It is intended to be a working shower, though it will depend on drainage as to weather it really works or simply has a small amount of water that can be turned on.
This work is about vulnerability. It is a metaphor for a relationship with art and a metaphor for a relationship with God: it is about making yourself uncomfortable and vulnerable, but achieving a reward doing so. The colour and the tactile surfaces of the tiles draw the potential viewer or bather in, while the sharp, corners, tight space and the possibility of danger repel the viewer or bather. As a shower, the viewer also has to approach it, at least mentally, vulnerably and picture themselves nude inside of it and in the middle of the gallery.
Tiles are made up of earthenware, white slip and John's blue Glaze. The tiles are approx 6' x 6' and range from 1/2' to 5'
